1. Nathan Garduno, Class of 2016, Film & Video Studies
Nathan_GardunoOriginally from Tacoma, WA, Nathan is pursuing his degree in Film and Video Studies. While he enjoys all genres of film, his passion lies in producing films of the indie variety. The aesthetic feel of the indie genre has always caught his eye. This summer, Nathan is interning at Southwest Airlines as a multimedia and visual communications intern. He will be given the opportunity to fly and travel to different stories with the Southwest family as well as traveling on the weekends across the United States to continue his photography.

2. Aquilla Ossian, Class of 2017, Government & International Politics 

Aquilla OssianOriginally from Las Vegas, NV, Aquilla is a member of the Student Government where she serves as Secretary for Government and Community Relations. She is also a Resident Advisor, serving in the Rappahannock neighborhood, a Mason Ambassador, and the Community Service Chairwoman for Black Student Alliance. This summer she plans to have an internship Delhi, India for the Chopras Institute of Professional Education, where she will serve in a role similar to a U.S. Ambassador to the students who are choosing the U.S. for their location of post-secondary education.

3. Ashley Cook, Class of 2018, Communication

Ashley_CookAshley is a Communication major with a concentration in Public Relations. Her goal is to pursue a career in the fashion industry doing PR. Ashley frequently writes for the News and Lifestyle portions of George Mason’s newspaper, Fourth Estate. She is the Vice President of GMU Fashion Society and is the Social Media liaison for PRSSA. In March she attended Fashion PR Confidential in New York City where she met with top industry professionals and received valuable career advice. Ashley made the Dean’s List both semesters of her freshman year. She is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and she is a recipient of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Freshman Academic Achievement Award. She is spending this summer in Washington, DC as a PR intern at MediaDC which publishes The Weekly Standard, Washington Examiner, and Red Alert Politics. To make things even better, there will be a month-long hiatus in her internship for a study abroad trip to Milan, Italy where she will be studying Italian Media, Culture and Society with an emphasis on Italian Fashion. Ashley is thrilled to share with you her adventures in Washington, DC, Milan, and everywhere else she finds herself along the way.

4.  Schuyler Kieley, Class of 2017, Music Education

Schuyler KieleySchuyler is a music education major from Poughkeepsie, New York entering his junior year at Mason.  He serves as the president of the Rho Omicron Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a male social music fraternity, and the secretary of Mason’s chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).  He also helps prospective students auditioning for the School of Music in various ways as a member of the Mason Music Ambassadors.  Schuyler plays the trumpet in several university ensembles including the Wind Symphony, Jazz Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and study privately with Professor Phil Snedecor.  He is also a dedicated member of the George Mason University Green Machine under the direction of Dr. Michael Nickens (Doc Nix).  This summer, Schuyler will be performing at various community functions with a brass quintet composed of alumni and one current student from his high school (Arlington High School in Lagrangeville, New York), as well as serving as a trumpet counselor at the Performing Arts Institute at Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, Pennsylvania where he will be assisting high school students in areas such as trumpet playing and playing in small groups such as jazz combos and brass quintets.  He will also be performing in ensembles at the institute and performing duties similar to that of a Residential Advisor.

5. Nicole Pradas, Graduate Student, Arts Management

Nicole PradasNicole is a graSTEAM Lightpainted.jpgduate student and she received her bachelor’s degree in dance from the University of Richmond. This summer, Nicole is teaching dance at Adagio Ballet and Dance School and Sunrise Assisted Living, as well as interning at Only Make Believe, an interactive theater company for hospitalized children. In addition, she is a Marketing and Promotion and Event Support Intern for Mason STEAM. STEAM is an initiative to add the arts into the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) movement.

6. Carlos Cruz, Class of 2017, Communication

Raymond_Carlos_Cruz_7032205009.JPGCarlos is studying Communication with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Theatre. This summer he is the Marketing Intern at Synetic Theater and will be a Teaching Artist for Acting for Young People. Carlos is a member of the Mason chapter of PRSSA and will be the Marketing Manager for the Mason Players for the upcoming 2015-16 school year. Carlos is a STEAM Promotions and Social Media Student Intern. The STEAM Table is a community of like-minded people who support the inclusion of the arts in STEM education initiatives and he is proud to be a part of this community.

7. Katie Garay, Class of 2017, Government and International Politics

Katie GarayKatie is a rising Junior majoring in Government and International Politics with a minor in Spanish. As of the fall she will be a Resident Advisor, President of the Mason Ambassadors, and Secretary for the Hispanic Student Association. She has a passion for service and is figuring out her place in the world with the support of George Mason University by her side! This summer she is interning at the U.S. Embassy in Panama through the Student Programs at the Department of State. Being from Alexandria, VA  and heading over 2,000 miles away from home makes this a truly thrilling adventure for her, as it will be there first time she is away from the area in which she was raised, and she is thrilled to take the Mason Community along for the ride.

8. Maggie Shaw, Class of 2017, Photography

Maggie ShawMaggie is a Photography student in the School of Art. She’s also minoring in Arts Management as she hopes to work in a museum or gallery someday. She loves all things related to music, donuts, and lavender. Maggie transferred to Mason last year from Northern Virginia Community College in fall of 2014 and she loves being so close to DC and all the opportunities it creates as well as the School of Art and the great people she’s met through it. This summer Maggie is working on building her life experiences. She’ll be in Charleston for ten days with Sculpture professor Rachel Debuque working on an upcoming show for her at the Redux Contemporary Art Center as well as creating a mural. Maggie will also be a Visual Intern at Anthropologie in Reston Town Center to work on and create their displays and visual aspects in the store. Afterward, she’ll be in Los Angeles, CA and San Louis Obispo to visit her best friend.

9. Meredith Bush, Class of 2016, Marketing

Meredith BushMeredith is a Senior pursuing a degree in Marketing with a minor in Sports Management.  In addition to being a captain of the Women’s Volleyball team at Mason, she enjoys spending time at her lake house wake-boarding and waterskiing as well as spending time with friends and family. This summer she will be interning in the Community Relations department for the Columbus Blue Jackets NHL team.

10. Jesi Hessong, Class of 2015, Conservation and Environmental Biology

Jesi_HessongJesi is originally from Three Rivers, TX and is a recent graduate. While she was at Mason, she majored in  Conservation and Environmental Biology with minors in Applied Conservation Skills and Nonprofit Studies with hopes of working in Field Biology to help save species. Jesi currently works for the United States Geological Survey on their Northeast Amphibian Research and Monitoring Initiative where she surveys vernal pools and streams from Harpers Ferry down to the Shenandoah Valley in addition to studying the local salamanders, frogs, and toads. She’s also writing this summer on some of the research she completed why attending Mason.

11. Haley Nixon, Class of 2017, Conflict Analysis and Resolution

haley nixonHaley just finished her second year at Mason where she is studying Conflict Analysis and Resolution with an International concentration and a minor in Nonprofit studies. This summer she is interning with the organization Food for the Hungry at their Public Policy office in DC, an international relief, and development organization working in over 20 countries around the world. She is also leading a group of high schoolers at Lake Champion, a Young Life camp in New York in July.

12. Tony Cordova, Graduate Student, MS, Management

Tony CordovaTony grew up in Woodbridge, VA and is currently finishing his Masters of Science Management at the George Mason University’s Arlington campus. Specializing in National Security and Defense Policy Analysis, Tony has just signed an offer with Booz Allen Hamilton and will begin in the Middle of June. As an undergraduate student, Tony studied Pre-Med while playing division one ice hockey for West Chester University in Pennsylvania. He will be in Istanbul, Turkey for his global experience course in order to complete his Master’s degree this June.

13. Farrah Abubaker, Class of 2017, Art and Visual Technology

farrah abubakerFarrah is pursuing a bachelor of fine arts degree with a concentration in sculpture. This summer she will be traveling to the Middle East (Jordan) to visit family. Farrah will also be going to Petra and the Dead Sea. She hopes to travel to Palestine to visit family there as well during the summer months.

14. Hannah Myers, Class of 2017, Dance

Hannah MyersHannah is from Hanover, PA. While at Mason she is majoring in Dance and minoring in Kinesiology. This summer Hannah is working for her grandfather’s construction company, teaching dance classes at b.Funk dance studio in Maryland, taking a summer class online through Mason, and taking dance classes locally. Hannah goes to her local gym daily to cross train her dancing with weight training, cardio, and yoga.  Hannah will also be vacationing to New York City and Ocean City, MD this summer. In the midst of her busy summer, Hannah will be one of four RA’s for the Mason Summer Dance Program in July where she will guide and assist students in their journey while continuing her dance education by taking daily modern and ballet classes and working closely with and assisting the Mason Summer Dance faculty with pieces that will be presented at the end of the program.
